The finals of the 2016 World Cup, which commenced in Warilla, NSW this morning, will be live-streamed free of charge.
The annual World Cup, the sport’s most prestigious indoor international event, has returned to Warilla for an eleventh consecutive year, commencing this morning and running until March 23.
In conjunction with Warilla Bowls and Recreation Club, Bowls Australia is pleased to announce that semi-finals and finals of the event will be live streamed free of charge on the Bowls Australia and Warilla websites on March 22 and 23.
Bowls Australia CEO Neil Dalrymple explained that the live streaming of the event adds to a growing list of marquee events being broadcast digitally.
“We are delighted to join with the Warilla Bowls Club to bring the World Cup live and free of charge to the bowls public,” Dalrymple said.
“We focused on increasing the amount of high caliber events being broadcast directly to our audience via streaming, and viewers can expect to see the same quality broadcast that we saw at the 2015 Australian Indoor Championships.”
Warilla Bowls and Recreation Club General Manager Phillip Kipp stated that the club was delighted to again host the event.
“This is the eleventh year the Club has played host to this prestigious international event and we are proud to be known as the home of the World Cup,” Kipp said.
“With this year’s star studded line-up and the added dimension of live streaming the tournament is shaping up as the one of the most exciting that we have seen.”
Australia will be represented by 2015 Australian Indoor Championships winners Jeremy Henry and Carla Krizanic (nee Odgers).
Henry will be gunning for a fourth World Cup title after taking out a treble between 2012 and 2014, while Krizanic will be looking to take out her first crown after a successful recent Six Nations Invitational performance.
Standing in their way is a world-class field, including two time Commonwealth Games singles champion Siti Zalina Ahmad (Malaysia), current Commonwealth Games singles champion Jo Edwards (New Zealand), APL03 and recently crowned New Zealand singles champion Shannon McIlroy (New Zealand) and renowned internationals Emma Saroji (Malaysia), Rudi Jacobs (South Africa), Colleen Piketh (South Africa) and Carmen Anderson OAM (Norfolk Island).
Live streaming will begin with the semi-finals on March 22, beginning at 10.00am AEDT, with all semi-finals and finals to be streamed over the two days.
