World Bowls is pleased to announce the results of the recent World Bowls Para Committee election and congratulates those elected to this newly established committee.
The elected members are:
- Leah Lazzaro – Bowls Australia (Oceania)
- Kim Joung Il – Korean Bowls for the Disabled (Asia)
- Tom Hamilton – Bowls Scotland (Europe)
- Owen James – Bowls South Africa (Africa)
These members will be joined by the following representatives to form the full World Bowls Para Committee:
- Head Physically Disabled Classifier – June McIntyre
- Head Visually Impaired Classifier – Hazel Sacharowitz
- IBBA (Vision Impaired) nominated representative – President Graham Ward
- IDBF (Deaf) nominated representative – Secretary Michael Barca
- Para Athlete Representative (to be nominated)
- World Bowls President or nominee
- World Bowls CEO
World Bowls CEO Neil Dalrymple emphasised the significance of the newly formed committee in shaping the future of Para Bowls worldwide.
“The establishment of the World Bowls Para Committee marks a significant milestone for our sport. This group will play a critical role in guiding the growth and development of Para Bowls globally, ensuring that we create more opportunities for athletes of all abilities to participate and excel.
Bowls has always been a sport built on inclusivity, accessibility, and community. It is one of the few sports where people of all ages and abilities can compete together, and this committee will help us strengthen that reputation as one of the most welcoming and inclusive sports in the world.”
A Terms of Reference will be considered at the inaugural meeting which will take place shortly.
The Chair will be elected from among the elected members at this first meeting.
