Rowan Brassey has competed in six Commonwealth Games and five World Bowls championships and is universally recognised as one of the best drawing bowlers on the planet.
He started playing bowls after a serious injury curtailed a promising rugby league career. Rowan was a bulldozer driver in his early career when he made his name as the world’s best specialist lead, before winning multiple New Zealand and other titles as a fours skip.
With Peter Belliss, he won the world outdoor pairs title in 1988 and the triples title in 2000. In 1990, he was awarded the New Zealand 1990 Commemoration Medal, and in 2001, he was appointed a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit, for services to bowls. Rowan has spent the second half of his bowls career based in Australia and secured many titles including the Australian Open Senior Pairs.
