Comedian Johnny Vegas endorses Bowls and Para Bowls at Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games as £10 tickets launched

Comedian, actor and lifelong bowls fan Johnny Vegas has backed the Bowls and Para Bowls competition at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, sharing his passion for the sport as tickets go on sale from just £10.

Known for his distinctive humour and memorable roles, including in the ITV sitcom Benidorm, Vegas also has a long-standing connection to bowls. He famously starred in the 2003 film Blackball and continues to play regularly at his local club on Merseyside.

Speaking to Glasgow 2026, Vegas described bowls in his own unmistakable style:

“A black beacon of hope leaves the palm and sets off on its course towards destiny. It comes in like a friendly neighbour just gently nudging people out of the way for a better view. It’s a coronation of brilliance, of genius, of why we left the caves in the first place. Exhilarating, at a gentle pace.”

Bowls and Para Bowls will take centre stage at the Scottish Event Campus (SEC), with a new indoor format creating a vibrant atmosphere featuring four rinks in action simultaneously and music throughout the competition.

To coincide with the announcement, Glasgow 2026 has released back-seat tickets for Bowls and Para Bowls from just £10.

Vegas said bowls has always been part of his life.

“It’s something I’ve played all my life. It has this magical take on you that you just go, ‘Pfft, the other stuff can wait.’ You can watch it, be inspired by it and it won’t cost you a fortune to play it the next day yourself.”

He also highlighted the accessibility of the sport, describing bowls as something people of all ages and abilities can enjoy together.

“You’ll watch the best of the best, but at every level there’s someone out there that wants to roll some woods with you.”

The Glasgow 2026 Bowls and Para Bowls competition will be held indoors for the first time in Commonwealth Games history, bringing spectators closer to the action in a fast-paced and exciting environment.

Glasgow 2026 takes place from 23 July to 2 August, bringing together around 3,000 athletes from 74 nations and territories across 10 sports and six Para sports.
