Foot Faulting

(from http://www.scottishbowler.co.uk)

The following diagrams show some, but not all, of the type of foot faults which are common in the game today and which umpires, and players, have to be aware of. When stance 'A' is adopted there is not a great deal of chance that there will be a foot fault as can be seen in the delivery. A player taking up Stance 'B' will, unless he or she kicks backwards on delivery, almost certainly be guilty of not only a foot fault but will be damaging the green by digging their toes into the green which tends to upset green keepers! The most serious foot fault is where a player adopts stance 'C' when about to play their backhand as, more often than not, their right foot will come completely off the mat and they will be playing on a different line to the jack from their opponents.

Stance A - there is not a great deal of chance that there will be a foot fault.
Stance B - unless he or she kicks backwards on delivery, the player will almost certainly be guilty of a foot fault.
Stance C - the most serious foot fault. The player is likely to be playing on a different line to the jack from their opponents.
