In one of the biggest upsets in recent bowls history Canada’s Pricilla Westlake has claimed the World Youth women’s singles championship final at Broadbeach Bowls Club on Australia’s Gold Coast today.
She snatched victory from defending champion and hot favourite Ellen Ryan from Australia 21-20 in the gold medal match.
And earlier on in the day Westlake defeated 2014 champion and host club star Chloe Stewart 21-16 in the semi finals to book an appointment with Ryan, the recently crowned WBT world under-25 singles championship winner at Potters Resort in England.
Similarly, in this morning’s hard-fought semi finals, Ryan was forced to overcome the dogged determination of 2015 champion Kristina Krstic when she captured a nail-biting 21-20 win and a berth in the world play-off.
