LOCAL heroes Scott Thulborn and Natasha Scott have emerged victorious at the 2016 World Singles Champion of Champions at Club Helensvale on the Australian Gold Coast.

Thulborn, who was bundled out in last year’s semi finals, also at Helensvale, made every post a winner today (Nov 20) when he blitzed Jon Tomlinson from Wales in straight sets 9-6 9-4.

It was a similar scenario in the women’s final earlier in the day when Scott, Australia’s No.1 ranked player for the past two seasons, overcame the persistent Amalia Matali from Brunei Darussalam 10-6 7-4.

It was a brilliant tournament for bowls in the Sultanate of Brunei, where there are only 45 registered participants, with Matali winning the women’s silver medal, while popular Rahman Omar clinched bronze in the men’s play-offs.

Other bronze medallists were Carmen Anderson OAM from Norfolk Island in the women’s and Mohammad Soufi Rusli from Malaysia in the men’s competition.

Results: Women: Natasha Scott (Australia) bt Amalia Matali (Brunei Darussalam) 10-6 7-4. Men: Scott Thulborn (Australia) bt Jon Tomlinson (Wales) 9-6 9-4.
