THE in-form Welsh combination of Jarrad Breen and Melanie Thomas will face Australia’s Aaron Teys and Ellen Ryan in tomorrow’s final of the World Junior Mixed Pairs final at the Broadbeach Bowls Club on Queensland’s Gold Coast.

Breen and Thomas gained their berth in the main event when they defeated the spirited Aussie duo of Aaron Wilson and Dawn Hayman 18-14 in this afternoon’s semi final.

Further up the green Teys and Ryan, who both won last year’s Australian Open singles championships – and the $18,000 first prize – ironically, on the greens at Broadbeach, outgunned the gallant Malaysian duo of Syafiqa Rahman and Budriz Mustakin 19-9. They have not dropped a game throughout this week-long competition and must start as hot favourites.

But the Welsh pair should not be discounted in the 12.30pm showdown. Earlier in the day they ousted New Zealand’s Sheldon Bagrie-Howlie and Katelyn Inch, who were finalists last year, 17-16 in an elimination final.

Tomorrow morning at 9.00am sees the semi final of the men’s and women’s singles, with the gold medal play-offs for both disciplines being decided at 3.30pm.
